Prof. Gunawan Tjahjono

Prof. Gunawan Tjahjono is currently the Professor of Architecture at the University of Pembangunan Jaya, Jakarta, Indonesia. Formerly, he has been the Professor of Architecture at the University of Indonesia, Depok, Jakarta. He has been the Head of the Urban Architecture Advisory Board for the Governor of Jakarta and also was a member of the Master Plan of University of Indonesia Depok campus. He was a jury member of the Holcim Sustainable Construction Award for the Asia Pacific Region.

Prof. Gunawan has published widely on vernacular settlements of Indonesia and is an ardent supporter and advocate of the relevance and usefulness of vernacular in the modern world. Prof. Tjahjono was the founder of the ISVS movement that spearheaded the International Seminar on Vernacular Settlemnts with its first seminar launched in 1999, at the University of Indonesia, Jakarta.
